This route takes you through the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei, the colonial Atlantic charm of Lüderitz and Swakopmund, and the extraordinary wildlife of Etosha National Park — three of Namibia’s defining landscapes, connected by roads that are as much a part of the experience as the destinations themselves.

Itinerary Overview

Depart Windhoek south through the desert to Sossusvlei, follow the coast through Lüderitz and Swakopmund, then turn inland to Etosha before returning to Windhoek via the central highlands.

Day 1: Windhoek — Arrival

Collect your vehicle and settle into the capital. Depending on your arrival time, explore Windhoek’s mix of colonial architecture, craft markets, and café culture. Your route documents, maps, and day-by-day trip guide are ready at vehicle pick-up.

Day 2–3: Sossusvlei & Deadvlei

Drive southwest into the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Two nights gives you an early morning at the dunes — the light at sunrise over Deadvlei’s white clay pan is unlike anything else on earth — and time to explore Sesriem Canyon in the afternoon. Dune 45 and Big Daddy are both within easy reach of the park gate.

Day 4–5: Lüderitz & Kolmanskop

Continue south to Lüderitz, a coastal diamond-rush town caught in another century. A short drive inland brings you to Kolmanskop — a ghost town half-swallowed by sand, one of the most photogenic spots in Namibia. The Garub wild horses graze nearby, one of only two feral horse herds on the continent.

Day 6–8: Swakopmund & the Namib Coast

The road north follows the desert to the Atlantic. Swakopmund offers a complete change of pace — cool sea air, seafood restaurants, and a full menu of optional activities: sandboarding, quad biking, kayaking with seals. Two nights gives you time to explore without rushing.

Day 9–11: Etosha National Park

Three days in Etosha puts you at one of Africa’s great wildlife destinations. The park’s waterholes draw elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, and cheetahs — often in striking proximity. Your accommodation is positioned within or adjacent to the park for maximum game-viewing time, including night visits to floodlit waterholes.

Day 12: Return to Windhoek — Departure

A leisurely drive south through the central highlands returns you to Windhoek in time for a final lunch or departure from Hosea Kutako International Airport.
